2026 Albrecht Kossel Prize Winner: Claudia Höbartner

Professor Claudia Höbartner from the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg has been awarded the Albrecht-Kossel Award for her groundbreaking achievements in the field of nucleic acid chemical biology. She is being honored in particular for elucidating the structure of DNA-based enzymes and for discovering RNA enzymes with methyltransferase activity.

With the Albrecht Kossel Prize, the GDCh honors personalities who have done excellent work in the field of Biochemistry. In 1910 Albrecht Kossel received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine "in recognition of the contribution that his work on proteins, including nuclei, has made to our knowledge of the chemistry of the cell".
