Mission DNA: NUCLEATE researchers inspire young scientists

As part of its outreach activities, the NUCLEATE Cluster welcomed a fourth-grade class from Würzburg for its “Mission DNA” project. Led by researchers Kathi Zarnack and Julian König, the pupils isolated DNA from cheek cells and bananas, visited the Biozentrum laboratories, and explored cells under the microscope. Through hands-on experiments and engaging analogies, such as comparing a cell to a small city, the children gained their first insights into molecular biology. The initiative reflects NUCLEATE’s commitment to making science accessible, interactive, and inspiring for young learners.
